Scammers are masquerading as recruiters for ScribeAmerica.
How Does it Work?
The scammer reaches out via social network (such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, etc), phone or email and hires you for a position such as a Data Analyst or Medical Scribe. However, before you start working, you need to purchase certain items that will be reimbursed later by check.
The Effect
The scammer gets you to pay money out of pocket that you are unable to get reimbursed. Additionally, the scammer may be stealing your personal information.
This scam thrives on you being too excited and nervous to ask the right questions. Ask yourself:
-
Does the email come from a corporate email address? All scribeamerica employees who interact with candidates will have an @scribeamerica.com email. Always check the spelling as well to ensure it is the correct spelling of the company name.
-
Can you confirm that the phone number is associated with the actual business by calling them back at that number or looking it up on the corporate website?
-
Is it too easy? Was there no interview or a really short interview?
-
Rarely does any legitimate company require you to purchase business supplies upfront. At ScribeAmerica, never.
Whenever you are speaking to a "representative" of any company; be sure to verify their identity. Additionally, all personal and banking information will be handled only through WorkDay. At ScribeAmerica we will always use Google Meets to conduct video interviews, and we do not use Microsoft Teams.
Don't fall for it! And in this case, don't let your friends fall for it!
