For our first Telescribe Tuesday article, we are very excited to have a conversation with Jennifer Larsen who is the Executive Vice President of Operations and oversees the Telescribe Program! Jennifer has been with ScribeAmerica since 2006, and is one of the founding members of the company! We sat down with Jennifer to ask her some questions all about the ScribeAmerica Telescribe program, and this is what she had to say
Why would a healthcare system want to bring on SA’s Telehealth Program?
Clinician burnout is a widespread concern in healthcare organizations worldwide, greatly influenced by factors such as EHRs, documentation requirements, and administrative burdens. Our scribes are dedicated to alleviating these challenges by ensuring accurate documentation, alleviating administrative burdens, facilitating top-of-license practice, and enhancing care team efficiency. We possess the capability to rapidly bring in highly skilled scribes from across the country, ultimately enhancing the well-being of clinicians.
What is unique about ScribeAmerica’s Telehealth Division Compared To Other Companies?
Our telescribe team is amazing! They are dedicated to providing exceptional care for our clients and employees alike. They consistently go above and beyond to ensure that our clients receive the highest level of care, attentiveness, and satisfaction. Moreover, we believe that happy employees lead to happy clients, so we strive to create a positive work environment that nurtures personal growth, collaboration, and work-life balance. By fostering a sense of belonging and providing opportunities for professional development, our team remains motivated, engaged, and committed to delivering outstanding service. At every step, we place a high value on building strong relationships, actively listening to feedback, and continuously improving to meet the evolving needs of our clients and employees.
We take pride in delivering the highest quality telescribes. We understand the crucial role scribes play in healthcare settings, and the impact they have on the overall workflow and satisfaction of clinicians. To ensure excellence, we have implemented a comprehensive training program that covers critical aspects such as medical terminology, documentation protocols, electronic health records, and effective communication skills. Our training curriculum is developed and regularly updated by experienced healthcare professionals and educators who understand the unique demands of the industry. The training process itself is immersive and interactive, incorporating hands-on practice, and real-world scenarios to equip our scribes with the necessary knowledge and skills. By investing in top-notch training and maintaining a commitment to excellence, we guarantee that our scribes deliver exceptional services, fostering improved efficiency, accuracy, and satisfaction to our clinicians.

What type of workflows can a clinician use for Telehealth?
We break it down into two workflows, called synchronous and asynchronous.
In the synchronous workflow, the scribe is working in real time with the clinician. The provider and scribe see patients together and are able to easily communicate audibly, and the video environment allows the scribe to respond to valuable non-verbal cues. The scribe documents in real-time and is present for the entire shift. Essentially, a clinician can enjoy the benefits of having a scribe in the room, while gaining the flexibility of a virtual program.
In the asynchronous workflow, clinicians use our secure app on their smartphone to record the natural conversation with their patient. On the backend, we use AI combined with medical scribes to quickly and accurately document directly into the clinician’s EHR. The scribe then alerts the clinician through the app when the documentation is complete or if additional information is needed. The end result is a note tailored to their preferences, documented directly into their EHR, so clinicians can spend less time behind a computer.
How has the Telescribe program developed over the past few years?
It has taken a while for us to get where we are today. We have significantly evolved since we began our telescribe service. We have tried many different technologies and workflows and have found what works best for both the clinician and telescribe. We work in every medical specialty so we also know how to tailor our service to specific clinicians.
Has the pandemic affected the telescribe division at all?
When the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered workplaces nationwide, society was plunged into an unplanned experiment in work from home, including us. Now two-and-a-half years on, working remotely is now a norm of the modern working world and even the preference for many. We have seen a significant uptick in the amount of people applying to our remote medical scribe position.
What would you say to a candidate who may not want to do Telescribe because they won’t be “in-person” at a facility?
Telescribing has a lot of great benefits. Obviously working from home is at the top, but also our telescribes can work with several clinicians in a range of specialties. We find our telescribe value the experience of seeing a variety of diseases and different styles of clinicians. Ultimately, we listen to the candidate and will find the best fit for the candidate. With a high need for scribes, both in-person and remote, we will find a position that matches what they are looking for.
