Peace. What does that mean to you?
Here at ScribeAmerica, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment that embraces all dimensions of diversity, equality, and inclusion. A place for all. Peace is a critical part of that. The month of September includes the International Day of Peace (9/21). It is a global day that calls for unity, non-violence, and understanding. People around the world pause to reflect on something that can feel both so simple and complex at the same time. When you answered the question above, you might have conjured images of quiet fields, meditation rooms, or that moment when they got your coffee order correct, and everything feels right in the world. However, peace is also about something much bigger: how we live, work, and grow together in community.
At its heart, peace and DEI share the same goal: creating spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, welcomed, included, and valued. A peaceful environment isn’t just the absence of conflict - it’s the presence of inclusion and safety.
Why Peace Matters in the Workplace?
Work isn’t always calm. Deadlines, differing opinions, and the occasional battle over who gets to work with their favorite provider can all make for a stressful environment. But when we lean into diverse perspectives, practice empathy, and commit to equitable treatment, we transform challenges into opportunities.
Peace at work doesn’t mean agreeing on everything. It means having the trust and respect to disagree, while knowing EACH voice will be heard. It means building bridges across backgrounds, cultures, and identities so collaboration can flourish.
Peace At ScribeAmerica
Of course, peace requires effort. It is a reflection of you. It means checking our biases, listening more than we speak, and stepping in when inequity shows up. This is why peace is integral for DEI. It’s not just nice to have, it’s the foundation of a workplace where people feel they belong and are seen. When we honor differences and work toward equity, we’re not just keeping the peace; we’re creating it.
YOU Can Reflect Peace In The Workplace
As we approach International Day of Peace this September, let’s commit to a small but powerful challenge:
- Take five minutes to connect with someone you don’t usually talk to (this could be a fellow medical scribe or a nurse or a tech at your site).
- Practice active listening, and really hear their story (you never know what you could learn).
- Share gratitude with a colleague who makes your day easier.
- When conflict arises, approach it with curiosity instead of judgment.
So, let’s ask ourselves: What can I do today to make our workplace a little more peaceful, inclusive, and kind? Because peace in the workplace isn’t a one-day event. It’s something we build together.
